  • Importance of thermodynamics and heat transfer in different thermal power plants (steam ,combined cycle and CSP)
  • Definitions and symbols.

  • Steam properties, tables and charts.

Module 2 : Power Plant Thermodynamic cycle Analysis:

  • First law of thermodynamics and its application on power plants
  • Heat Engines and Carnot Cycles
  • Actual cycles with modifications
  • Exergy and Second law Efficiency
  • Second law analysis of cycles.
  • Efficiency and heat rate
  • Effect of different thermodynamic parameters on power generation in power plants.

Module 3 : Thermodynamic principles of Steam Turbine

  • The impulse principle and the velocity diagram
  • Optimum blade speed
  • Pressure and velocity compound impulse turbine.
